Kemwerke's Research and Development in the Midst of Globalization
Since 1983 Kemwerke has established itself as a specialty chemicals company dealing in the manufacture of resins using plant-based feedstock, initially using imported soya, linseed, or sunflower oil. As it felt globalization creeping in through the various international free trade agreements such as EU, NAFTA, AFTA and other upcoming regional and bilateral trade agreements.and to remain globally competitive, Kemwerke reevaluated its direction and developed its strategy to focus on the Philippinjes’ indigenous source of vegetable oil - the coconut.
Realizing the edge to be gained from the Philippines status of consistently being the world’s no. 1 supplier of coconut oil (supplying 70%-80% of world requirements), Kemwerke developed its first coconut –oil based resin in 1992, the Short- Oil Coconut Alkyds. They are used for NC Lacquer formulations for wood and metal coating applications. In 1995 Kemwerke subsequently entered the export market, starting with the Middle East and Asian markets. and to date has shipped to a total of 40 countries.
Kemwerke has pioneered the development of coconut-oil based resins, starting with its Coconut -based Alkyds in 1992. After much success with the product, Kemwerke then formulated the coconut-oil-based Coconut Polyols for use in polyurethane paint systems in 2002. Kemwerke then started developing their Bioresin in 2007 and worked with the government Institution, Department of Science and Technology, Industrial Technology Development Institute, Surface Coating Research Development Center in testing the performance of Kemwerke BIORESIN in a 2 Pack-Polyurethane Paint in accordance to the US Standard Test Methods ASTM and JAPANESE Standard Testing Equipment.
